(I'm posting this in the AFHk forums, too)

I am doing the Diamonds in the Rough 2 contest as a HCNP TT. Muscle days are 4/5. My goal is a 7 day run. Lead-in is HCNP SA, so I have a scarf. I have 3 karma.

My permed skills are SHC, AC, Pastamastery, Adv. Sauce, Torso and Hero of the Half-Shell, and a Sugar Tome. Non-standard familiars are bander, he-boulder, slimeling, sandworm (and a rock lobster, sadly obsoleted). I have a VIP key too.

Some semi-clever ideas I have are:
    Get turtle wax ASAP so I have a shield for Hero to be turned on.
    Get the turtlemail hauberk to manage HP. I have no healing skill permed and, because of the sandworm, will only have 3 spleen hits per day for medicinal herbs. VIP key makes this, in essence, 8 per day. Hopefully that will suffice for all but the banked muscle days.
    Get a padded tortoise for the same reason, but later.
    Use blue shells to speed up the 8-bit realm.

Skills I am planning on buying (in order). The last 4 will probably come after I get the dictionary. I expect to have lots of meat since I don't have a lot to spend MP on.

Day 1 goals
    Turn 1 red ray
    Oxydrop (lunchbox)
    Get to L4 without drinking
    Get to L5 (never done this before)
    2 sugar shirts, 1 sugar shield on the bander
    Yellow ray a harem girl
    Don't do something stupid (e.g., think you can drink to 19, get booze from the barrels when you know you're getting tavern swill, feed something hard to replace to the slimeling)
    Failing that, don't do something *really* stupid


I've actually already made my first mistake and picked the present from the Crimbo Tree yesterday. So no chance of first turn free shield.

First off, good luck with this, looks like a fun idea.

Now; I always red ray even on day 4: It's micromanagey, but I think worth it. As you have less +lb skills, it's not quite as powerful, but still better than a volley or sandworm stat gains. So yeah, do that. Plus more offstat gains to help with fledges and war outfit.

Otherwise, you've got a lot of great ides that will speed up your run; all the turtle taming ideas are good, as are the skills you intend to buy; however, I'd buy skin of the leatherback for 800 meat and the DR it gives will be worth it. Buying all 3 -butt skills isn't really worth it, so bear that in mind.

Good luck, I'll pop in again to see how you're going, but I hope you make 7 days!

Thanks for the tips. I bought leatherback and will do the red rays. (wish I had a totem, though)

She dies before I get a chance to yellow ray. Same thing happens again except she drops the pants and perfume. Is that how the he-boulder is supposed to work :)? So, I decide to yellow ray a KGE. I pick the treasury because it has less dumb non-combats.

This was very good for me. First time to L5 on day 1. First time eating good (i.e., not from the pantry) food. Filled my spleen. Got the lunchbox. All in all, very good consumption wise.

Have the harem outfit and the KGE outfit. Boss Bat is ready. Goblin King is ready (might need a philter of phorce to take him out). Temple is open. Library is not, yet. Have 2 boxes. Have 2 brains. No smart skulls, no beer lenses, no chef's hat.

Tomorrow I want to finish the boss bat, get innaboxes, start getting blue shells in the 8-bit, get my turtlemail hauberk, get liver, yellow ray a hippy. Hopefully eat 2 reagent pastas (I have no cubes/mushrooms/sausages, though). It would be good to get the goblin king for his crown. I should get some more turtle wax for some greaves. Or just get another shield.

I felt I had a good day 1, but day 2 was not so good. Started out building my meatcar and getting beer lenses. Decided I would try and get 2 smart skulls from the cemetary. "Try" means fight two smart skeltons and see what drops. 1 out of 2. (No chef's hat either).

I got the bartender, I opened the island and yellow rayed a hippy. I took out the goblin king and the boss bat. I got the hauberk so I shouldn't have to worry about HP for a while.

I'm disappointed about not getting liver. It will hamper banking for the muscle stat day. If I hadn't lost my first time to the goblin king that would have saved 7 turns. I had room for 2 more aguas.

Tomorrow is simple. Finish liver. Get chef-in-the-box. Find good food and drink. Open the gallery. Bank.
I don't think I will make it far enough to yellow ray a miner.

Started out finishing up liver. It took 12 turns, so I wasn't super far off getting it yesterday. In the middle I got fortified wine as my semi-rare. I figure consumption-oriented SR's are conducive to banking.

Good things: I can equip my scarf now. Running 30 ML made that detour to the friar's seem more defensible. Got the pirate outfit. Banked almost 100 adventures.
Bad things: too short and too few goals on the day for things to have gone poorly.

Tomorrow is lined up well. The only tricky thing is my semi-rare. It is between 69-109 adv from now. I am 7 muscle from L8. It seems like a choice between level now and get that SR or do other things, get a lunchbox as that SR and then level to 10 when I am done with things. Chat and I are leaning towards the latter.

So, tomorrow's activities, in rough order, are: finish cyrpt; buff and kill bonerdagon; use leftover buff in the bedroom to open the ballroom, get spectacles and get spookyraven skill item, set ballroom song; then either level to 9 or do pirates (getting padded tortoise) and L8 quest.

Odds and ends are daily dungeon, wand and pixels (I think I need 5 more). If I have no extra goat cheese I think I'll buy a mushroom plot.

I'm excited to eat my karma, too. Lots to do and lots of turns.

Start out with 135 adventures. Made sure to use my manual of labor. My big question coming in was would I make it to L9 before my semi-rare. That was between 69 and 109 adv from the start. Fortune cookie says... 91, almost exactly in the middle. This is a "no."

So, I think my chasm mix-up has all but eliminated any chance of finishing tomorrow. I should be looking at about 220 adventures, I think. In that time I need to do:
* The Hole in the Sky, 36
* Ed, 7
* Daily Dungeon, 7
* The War from start to the Big Wisnewski, 125
* Get to level 13, 0
* The lair

I am hoping to be able to run enough ML to get to L13 without levelling. That leaves 45 turns for all the lair and its farming. That sounds doable, but there is a lot of variability. Also, I don't know if I can survive running that much ML since I am healing poor.

(aside, levelling will requires ~6200 muscle substat. According to the wiki, a hippy gives ~24 base. My 50 ML makes that only 30. I was hoping to run my bander so shieldbutt will keep me healthy. Maybe I need to use the sandworm).

I ascended today. Yay. I thought I would have 220 turns. I ended up using 237. I think my 220 was a miscalculation and I got 3 distilled wines.

Thanks to both of you. Ema, your run was really nice. Not even the full consumption set. Did you clover the sewers for spices and lo meins? Never mind, I'll read your log. I was hoping someone from the low skill group would crack into the main standings but there were too many good entrants. Tenth place was 5/1065.

Zephro, the way I see it there are three keys to speeding up low-skill runs:
1) Discard an Instant Karma.
2) Discard an Instant Karma.
3) Discard an Instant Karma.

:) An HCO lead-in (less equipment) is pretty much free now so that speeds things up nicely.
